The aviation world as we know it is a big industry. It has a huge network of players playing their role to ensure we make the most of the chartered routes of the sky. An aviation organization brings you in close proximity with other players in the industry. 

There are different types of aviation organizations in the industry ranging from charity organizations to training organizations, international organizations, and safety organizations. With different aviation organizations around, it’s important to know what each organization stands for and its purpose. Each organization in the aviation industry has specific visions, perks, requirements, and benefits.


1. Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA): It is a top aviation training organization for pilots in the aviation industry. It comprises a strong network of pilots across different countries of the world. The organization educates pilots to improve their skills through its wealth of training materials and resources.


2. Flight Safety Foundation (FSF): It is a leading aviation safety organization that promotes aviation safety through research, education, and advocacy. It is an international, non-profit organization that pushes for the cause of aviation safety in the industry. 


3. General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA): It exists to foster and advance the general welfare, safety, interests, and activities of the global business and general aviation industry. A national trade association representing 55 manufacturers of fixed-wing aircraft, engines, avionics, and components.


4. The Ninety-Nines: It is a top international aviation organization that caters to the needs and interests of female pilots. It helps women become pilots by provisioning education and scholarships. 


5. National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA): It is one of the top aviation organizations in the industry that helps companies with all there is to be successful business aircraft operators. Members are offered all there is to succeed in the industry through networking with other peers in different parts of the industry.


6. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA): It is a statutory body of the Government of India to regulate civil aviation in India. It became a statutory body under the Aircraft (Amendment) Act, 2020. It investigates aviation accidents, incidents and maintains all regulations related to aviation and is responsible for issuance of licenses.


7. International Air Transport Association (IATA): It is an international trade body representing some 240 airlines comprising 94% of scheduled international air traffic. IATA is the trade association for the world’s airlines. It supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.


8. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO): It is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates the principles and techniques of international air navigation, and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth. 


9. Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA): It is one of the top aviation maintenance organizations. It comprises a strong network of professional aviation maintenance technicians. It foster the advance methods, skills, learning, and achievement in the arena of Aviation Maintenance.


10. Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA): It represents and advocates for more than 74,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, making it the world’s largest airline pilot union. It provides three critical services to its members: airline safety, security, and pilot assistance. It works to ensure that the airline industry remains safe and represents pilots’ views to make decisions.
